Born on August 9th, 1963 at 20:55 in Newark Heights, NJ (AA data), died on February 11, 2012, aged 48. Just WHY did an exuberant Leo woman with Moon in fiery, combative Aries - a combination which promises great vitality, strong life force and plenty of enthusiasm - have to die so young???
Whitney Houston was found dead in an LA hotel, and, as www.tmz.com reports, "although the cause of death is unknown, it is increasingly looking like Whitney may have fallen asleep or lapsed into unconsciousness in the bathtub and drowned." This is very much in line with her Neptune in the 8th house, in the "watery" Scorpio! At least she passed away peacefully, as the trine with the ascendant suggests.
She was such a georgeous woman and sang so well, but was so unfortunate. Drugs and alcohol killed her. Is there anything in her horoscope to suggest ill luck and pretimely death?
 For the start, her ascendant is in Pisces. Many talented actors, actresses, singers, dancers and other artists are born with this imaginitive, but oversensitive sign on the ascendant. They have a weak will and find it hard to withstand drugs, alcohol and other forms of escapism which can lead to self-destruction. This tendency can be defied by a strong ascendant ruler, but if this planet is weak, they too often end up as victims.
Traditionally, her ascendant ruler is Jupiter, which is also her almuten, while the modern ruler is Neptune.
When I first looked at her chart, seeing her Aries Moon in an applying conjunction with Jupiter, her chart ruler, I said to myself, no, that's impossible. This aspect promises a long life. Except... If Jupiter was retrograde. Which indeed it was. Whitney was born at a time of Jupiter's station, turning retrograde. In horary astrology, a significator which is about to turn retro, shows weakness and an inability to act. Such a significator loses much of its "accidental" strength. Abraham Ibn Ezra's 91st "generalization" (The beginning of Wisdom, Ascella, p. 222) says: "The star, which is about to assume a retrograde motion, is like a man bewildered and trembling at the misfortunes which will befall him". As Jupiter has been retrograde during her whole life, let's see what he says on that: "The star which retrogrades is like a twitching a rebellious person." Her own words, when describing herself: ""The biggest devil is me. I'm either my best friend or my worst enemy."
The rules of horary astrology, if understood properly, are very applicable to natal charts. Her 8th house ruler is Venus, which is combust in this chart. In horary astrology, combustion means (among other things) "being hidden from view". Accordingly, she died alone, with noone by her side. Venus rules pleasurable activities, and since she died while taking a bath, this is very appropriate. Add the square to Neptune and you get someone who gets sick (Venus in 6th house) as a consequence of being drugged (square Neptune) and dies (Venus rules the 8th house) in the bath (Neptune in Scorpio in a watery sign) while there's noone around to help (Venus combust).
As she was a night birth, the Moon (also hyleg or "life giver" in this chart) is especially relevant in considering her character, destiny and longevity. Beside applying to a stationary retrograde Jupiter and (by sextile) to a retrograde Saturn, she is peregrine and placed below the horizontal axis, which doesn't bode well for longevity.
The purpose of this article is not to delineate her whole chart, but only to research the tragic incidence of her death. Every death is "foretold" by an eclipse.
I predicted the possiblity of a famous woman's death in Los Angeles area in my previous blog in which I considered the relevance of the December 10, 2011 total lunar eclipse which had the node straight on the ascendant for LA.
Solar and lunar reclipses portend deaths of famous persons. Add astrolocality and you have the key. Amy Winehouse's death (2011) showed a similar pattern.
Eclipse wouldn't show her death, of course, if it wasn't linked to her chart. But there IS a strong link. As you can see, Whitney's MC/IC axis is 18 Saggitarius/Gemini. This axis is exactly aligned with the December eclipse.
 There were other warning signals, of course. Her progressed declination graph shows the Moon at her southern limit, just having turned upwards, suggesting that the last few years of her life had been very tough on her. Longitudinally, her progressed Moon has been in Capricorn since June 2010; this Moon placement is bad for vitality, especially for someone who was born at night and has little earth in his/her chart - as is the case here. You will see that in the beginning months of this year, her progressed ascendant is in an exact parallel with Pluto, the modern ruler of crisis and death, and her progressed Sun in an exact parallel with Chiron, the "wounded one".
 Additional strain was put on her by transitting Pluto in square of Mars. This shows a severe obstruction of the ability to fight for one's life. In the critical moment, she lost all strength.
R.I.P., Whitney Houston. We will always love you.

Your original post says Newark Heights, NY (New York). Wikipedia and Astrowiki show Newark, NJ; and Newark Heights, NJ is not where she was born. They are two different places and very different, also.
It does not make that much difference in coordinates, but it is not Newark Heights.

Hi Grace, thanks, but, fortunately, my only mistake was that I wrote NY instead of NJ. (I changed to NJ now, I understand it's New Jersey, not New York). The chart is perfectly OK, no need to change that, since Newark Heights in NJ is practically the same place as Newark in NJ. There's a tiny difference of 5 minutes in longitude, so ascendant is only 8 minutes off, so I guess it's just the same place. I must have found Newark Heights as her birth town somewhere on the net since I'm not American and I wouldn't think the place up.
