PROFILE: Ema Kurent

(Published in The Astrological Journal - May/June 2004)

Do you believe in perfect happiness, and how would you define it?

It´s a blissful union of two bodies and souls, bound together in ecstatic love. But since I have arrived at this feeling of complete happiness by means of an illegal drug, my conclusion is that perfect happiness is indeed something “neptunian” – in every (astrological) sense of the word!

What is your greatest fear?

To destroy my own life and the lives of those dear to me by my own foolishness. Professionally speaking, I often fear that my many books, which I have been writing for a decade or so, will remain unfinished and unpublished. Which is a real threat because I´m never satisfied with what I´ve done and always feel there´s something more to add.

What did you want to be when you were seven years old?

My main memory from that time is that I was afraid I won´t pass the 1st grade on account of bad behaviour. Then, I probably thought I couldn´t be anything but a complete failure.

What is the trait you most deplore in others?

I believe in basic goodness of all men, and tend to be very forgiving of their mistakes. If they do something really deplorable, I treat them as sick persons who need help. Otherwise, my basic instincts abhore cruelty above all else.

What gives meaning to your life?

One day I´ll stop and ask my life: do you have a meaning – at all?

How do you feel about your appearance?

Good!

What is your greatest achievement?

Having learned how to clean up after myself.

What is your personal dream?

To pack my bags and travel to Fidji. That´s where my Jupiter/MC and LS Jupiter lines meet. It should be my true heaven-on-earth.

What is your favourite food?

Vegetables, fruits and seafood. My preferred everyday meals are mostly Italian style - lots of olive oil, spaghetti, garlic, red wine etc., but I truly adore exotic dishes – Asian, Chinese, Indian, whatever.

What is your favourite place in the whole world?

A mountain peak, any peak. I used to be a mountain climber, nowadays I am only an avid mountaineer.

What do you consider your greatest failure?

Not being able to quit smoking.

Can you define your religious beliefs?

When laics speak of astrology, they often say there might be “something” in it. Likewise, I think there might be “something” of a God out there: a nose, a beard, a knee or an ankle…

Is there a cause you would die for?

I hope there isn´t.

Do you believe in monogamy?

You are asking a woman with Venus in Scorpio and Moon in Cancer – do I need to say YES?!

What single thing would most improve the quality of your life?

One night of unbroken sleep, definitely. (Mother of a 7 months old Gemini boy and 2 years old Aquarian girl speaking. I dream of the times when they will sleep the night through…)

Is there anything that makes you feel sad or depressed?

I always find something, yes.

Was school an enjoyable experience for you?

Not really, because it involved too much learning by head and lacked creativity. In the secondary school I hated all subjects except foreign languages.

What is your earliest memory?

Sitting in a lone corner and caressing my doll.

Which of your parents had more influence in your life and why?

My father knew all the answers, my mother cooked all the food. That´s also basically what my own life is all about: answering questions and cooking meals. Therefore, I guess, both were equally influential.

Whose creative work do you admire and why?

Oh, they are just too many! But I truly admire those who are not creative. How on earth do they manage not to die of boredom?

What is your greatest extravagance?

With 4 children to provide for, I can hardly afford to have any extravagances. But even if I had loads of money, I don´t think I would know what to do with it – damn you, Saturn in 2nd!

What or who is the greatest love of your life?

This is a very complex question. (You asked a Libra - you asked for it ;-) Basically, any woman knows two kinds of love: a love for her children and a love for her men. All my children are my jewels and I love them deeply. As for my men: each love was greatest at it own time, but until my progressed Sun crossed my ascendant, which happened just 4 years ago, not a single one was a happy one. Knowing that my natal Venus is in Scorpio, OOB, 12th house and stationary retrograde, you can just imagine what it was like!!! A long series of tragedies.  I am one of the very very few people on Earth whose progressed Venus will be in the 12th house for all of her life – unless I live more than 82 years! (At least, it will turn direct on cusp of 12th when I´m 46 – hurrah!!!) Anyway. I am happily in love now and therefore I believe that HE, the father of my youngest two, is the greatest love of my live. Question answered? Oh well, I could write a book on that subject!

How would you like to be remembered?

As a pioneering spirit who was brave enough to pursue her “crazy” business in spite of all opposition. And, of course, as a woman who looked 35 when she was 60 ;-)

What is the most important lesson life has taught you?

Life has been trying very hard, to teach me lessons, but it rarely succeeds. One thing that I have learnt, however, is that it always pays to be kind.
